If you’re searching for custom or luxury homes in Temple, Texas, established South Temple neighborhoods such as Deerfield deserve a close look. Deerfield combines custom-home character, mature surroundings, larger homesites, and convenient access to everyday Temple amenities.
If you’re relocating to Temple, Texas, you may be surprised by just how much variety exists within the local housing market.
You can find everything from affordable starter homes and newer subdivisions to acreage properties and distinctive custom homes. But if your wish list includes mature trees, more individualized architecture, larger lots, upgraded finishes, and a neighborhood that doesn’t feel like every home came from the same floor plan, your search starts to narrow.
That’s where areas like Deerfield in Temple, Texas become especially interesting.
As the Home in Texas Team, we help buyers see beyond the listing photos and understand what different parts of Temple and Belton actually feel like. We’re a mother-daughter real estate team, Ali Thompson and McKenna Taggart, and we work with everyone from first-time homebuyers to luxury buyers and families relocating to Central Texas.
And rather than just telling you what a custom home in Temple can look like, we can show you.

If you’re researching Temple from another state, take a few minutes to watch our tour above. It gives you a much better idea of the character, finishes, space, and design you can encounter in a custom Temple home than listing photos alone.
That distinction matters.
“Luxury” in Central Texas doesn’t always mean the same thing it does in Austin, Dallas, California, or other markets our relocation clients may be coming from.
Here, luxury can mean space, privacy, mature trees, custom architecture, outdoor living and thoughtful finishes—not simply a recognizable luxury ZIP code.
Deerfield is a great example of that.
Deerfield is an established Temple neighborhood where buyers can encounter custom homes that feel noticeably different from production-built communities.
Current listings provide a good example. A custom home on Misty Morning Lane in Deerfield has been marketed with luxury interior upgrades, mature trees, a corner lot and individualized architectural details.
The broader Deerfield area also includes The Creeks at Deerfield, where available property has been marketed specifically for buyers interested in designing and building custom homes. One current property is approximately 0.67 acres, illustrating the larger homesite opportunities that can exist within this part of Temple.
For you as a buyer, that means Deerfield is worth considering if your wish list includes:
That combination can be especially appealing if you’re relocating from a higher-cost housing market.
One mistake you can make when relocating is searching only by price.
Temple’s overall home prices are considerably different from those of major Texas metros, so applying an Austin, Dallas or out-of-state definition of “luxury” can cause you to overlook properties that actually fit what you want.
Current August 2026 market data illustrates the difference. One recent CTXMLS-based Temple market report put the median sold price at approximately $261,545, with about 4.6 months of inventory. HAR's August 2026 data similarly shows that Temple has a substantial selection of homes beyond its median price point, with an average asking price above $330,000 across its active inventory.
So when you move into the custom and upper-end segments of the Temple market, you aren't necessarily looking for the same price threshold that defines luxury elsewhere.
Instead, ask:
Look at the homesite, square footage, privacy, architecture, outdoor space, craftsmanship, location and interior finish level.
That’s also why our Wooded Creek video is useful if you’re moving here from somewhere else. You can see a real Temple custom home rather than trying to translate a list of specifications into what living there would actually feel like.
This is one of the conversations you should have with your Realtor before deciding where to buy.
There isn't one universally better choice.
If you want an established setting with mature landscaping and homes that may have more architectural individuality, an area such as Deerfield could be a better fit.
If your priorities are brand-new systems, current design choices, warranties and the ability to select finishes—or even design the home from scratch—building may make more sense.
Temple has an active custom-building market as well. Local builders currently advertise custom and build-on-your-lot opportunities throughout Temple, Belton and surrounding Central Texas communities.
So your real decision may not be simply:
“Which neighborhood should I buy in?”
It may be:
“Should I buy an existing custom home or build exactly what I want?”
A local relocation specialist can help you compare those options based on your timeline, financing, preferred location and priorities.
Deerfield shouldn’t be your only search.
Depending on your definition of luxury and what you want from your property, your search may extend throughout Temple, Belton and the surrounding Bell County area.
For example, some buyers prioritize established South Temple neighborhoods. Others want newer construction. Some want enough land to build from scratch, while another buyer may value proximity to work, shopping or healthcare more than acreage.
That’s why we recommend starting with your lifestyle rather than starting with a subdivision name.
Tell us:
How much space do you want? Do you want new or established? How important are mature trees? Do you want a pool? Do you need a larger lot? Are you comfortable renovating? Do you want to build? And where will you be commuting?
Those answers can dramatically change which part of Temple or Belton we recommend you explore.
If you’re moving to Central Texas from another state, you have an additional challenge: you may be trying to choose a community before you truly understand the area.
That’s why you shouldn't evaluate homes based on bedrooms, bathrooms and price alone.
Pay attention to the things an online listing has trouble communicating:
Video tours can be especially valuable at this stage.
Our goal with tours like this one isn't simply to show you a beautiful house. It's to help you understand what your options actually look like when you're buying a home in Temple, Texas.
There may be more room for buyers to be selective than you expect.
The August 2026 Temple market report cited above characterized the overall market as balanced but leaning toward buyers, with approximately 4.6 months of housing supply. It also reported that 56% of active Temple listings had experienced at least one asking-price reduction.
That doesn't mean every custom or luxury property is negotiable, and neighborhood- and price-specific conditions can differ significantly from citywide averages.
But it does mean you shouldn't assume you have no leverage.
If you're serious about a custom home, we can look at the specific property's history, comparable sales, time on market, competition and condition before deciding how aggressively to structure your offer.
And if you're selling a custom home in Temple, those same conditions make pricing and presentation especially important. Custom features only create value when buyers understand why they matter.
There isn't one “best” neighborhood for every buyer, but Deerfield and the surrounding South Temple area are worth exploring if you value custom-home character and established surroundings. Your best location ultimately depends on budget, lot-size preferences, commute, desired amenities and whether you want an existing home or new construction.
Deerfield can be worth adding to your tour if you're looking for an established Temple neighborhood with custom homes, mature surroundings and larger-lot opportunities. Our Wooded Creek home tour can give you a first look before you visit Temple in person.
Selling a custom home requires more than putting its bedroom count and square footage online. Your marketing should communicate the home's craftsmanship, design, homesite, upgrades and lifestyle—and position those features against competing Temple and Belton properties. Current market conditions also make accurate pricing particularly important.
